California online CCW training for resident applicants consists of two required parts: Part A and Part B.
Part A is this online California CCW Initial 16-Hour Course, which allows you to complete the classroom portion of your training from the comfort of your home — on your schedule.
Part B is your required in-person live-fire shooting qualification. You must shoot and qualify with each firearm you want listed on your California CCW permit with a qualified California CCW firearms instructor.
You must successfully complete BOTH Part A — the online classroom course — and Part B — the in-person live-fire qualification — before your California CCW training certificate can be issued.
Designed for California Resident CCW Applicants
This online initial CCW course is designed for eligible California residents applying for a California Concealed Carry Weapon license through a participating California Sheriff’s Department or Police Department.
Whether you are new to firearms or an experienced shooter, this course provides structured instruction on safety, California firearm laws, legal responsibilities, responsible carry practices, and the serious responsibility that comes with carrying a concealed firearm.
Because every licensing agency may have its own procedures, approved vendor list, live-fire standards, and application requirements, students should carefully review their issuing agency’s instructions before purchasing training or submitting an application.
